Machell Hoover and Anne Rice will present an in-depth exploration of the intricate relationship between oral health and overall well-being, going beyond basic oral-systemic education to examine the powerful connections between the mouth and various systemic processes. This course will delve into cardiovascular and neurological health, the complex interplay between periodontal disease and diabetes, and the crucial connections between oral health, airway patency, and sleep quality. Participants will learn about oral symbiosis, host immune response, and inflammation, including the delicate balance of the oral microbiome. The vital role of nutrition in maintaining optimal oral health will also be covered. Critically, the presentation will focus on treatment protocols, outlining current best practices for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases, and emphasizing the importance of tailoring treatment plans based on individual patient needs and risk factors.
- Predict, Prevent, Personalize, and Participate—to proactively address oral disease risks and their systemic connections.
- Understand the key contributors to oral dysbiosis, the virulence of significant periodontal pathogens, and their impact on systemic health through the oral microbiota.
